In the Spirit of Ubuntu: Hayden.

13 10 2008

Hayden is another one of those surprises for me around here.  Surprising, because of her young age, to have so much Ubuntu already inhibiting that soul.  It really is amazing to me.

Hayden is so wise.  Wise beyond her years.  Actually, I think that she is wise because she had to be, early in her life.  She bears the reminders of old wounds from years ago, that she is fighting against to hold her back from what she is able to create in her present life.  But, it seems that it makes her ever stronger, ever more determined to keep creating a better day, a thousand better todays and tomorrows for herself.

Hayden believes in love.  No matter what she has gone through in her past, no matter how much she has been kept down or told she didn’t deserve to have it, she has it in spite of that.  And, she doesn’t just have it, she absolutely holds love so near and dear, and it is meaningful and deep for her.  She believes in it enough that she knows that it doesn’t just come and stay; that it requires work and commitment and desire to continue, and she possesses all of those qualities.

Rarely do I meet a person that possesses the courage that I believe that she has.  She sees that there is something that she wants to achieve, and she works tirelessly, or sometimes, not so tirelessly, to pursue that endeavor.  Even if there are moments when she could encounter problems with it, nothing becomes an obstacle when she is focused and motivated to go after what she most wants.

That doesn’t mean that she isn’t afraid, or unsure, or worried that she will fail, or get too tired, or give up.  I am sure that all of that is present in Hayden’s world too.  But, she doesn’t let it get the best of her.  She calls out her troops, she uses her strengths, she gets pretty resourceful to be able to stay the course through the toughest of times.  She had to in her life, and it has now become an art form, but one that she uses for good.

Powers that she uses for good.  Like a super hero.

Boy, that fits her.  She has taken it upon herself to use her knowledge, her wisdom, her life experiences, and her loving heart and spirit to help others that need it.  She really is Ubuntu in her own, unique, special way.

And, she really is like a super hero…….. WOW…….

It is beyond STRANGE to see how others see you. Thank you, Vanessa, for these incredible words and for this incredible series. I didn’t realize how hard it is to read nice things about one’s self. This is the perfect Ubuntu exercise, making people face their deep beauty.

You are incredible. Thank you for showing that I am too.

How to Forgive « Persistent Illusion

[...] Part of a searching and fearless inventory is to open ourselves to the wonder and beauty that is our soul, our life, our being.  Yesterday I was presented with an opportunity to do just that when Vanessaleigh wrote about how I encompass Ubuntu, the I am that you are of living.  It is part of a series in which she has written of just how someone embodies Ubuntu, the deep love for others as ourselves.
